Playing Rules (all divisions)

Offense:

  1. Five men on the line of scrimmage and five men in the backfield. No unbalanced line. The line consists of a center, two tackles and two ends. Penalty: L5 or option
  2. No blocking below the waist.
  3. At least one running back positioned between the ends who is stationary for a least one second prior to the snap.
  4. Quarterback is not allowed to carry the ball between the tackles. Penalty: L5 or option
  5. At least one forward pass (includes screen pass) in every four (4 ) plays. The count begins with each change of possession. Penalty: LD (and must pass on next down). If the ball is carried over the line of scrimmage before a forward pass is thrown, the play will be whistled dead. If a team is called for grounding on the 4th play (having run the previous three plays), they must pass on the next play.

EXCEPTIONS:

a) If a team runs of 1st, 2nd or 3rd down and fail to make a 1st down, they may punt or concede a safety on 4th down. If they “go for it” it must be a forward pass
b) If a team has run the previous three plays, they may take a knee of the 4th play to END THE HALF.
NOTE: Where it is obvious that a passing play is developing and the quarterback is sacked in the pocket (not scrambling), this will count as a pass play.

6. The centre and two tackles are ineligible receivers

Defense:

  1. 4 Defensive linemen are mandatory.
  2. Static front with offensive centre being uncovered.
  3. Each defensive lineman must cover one player.
  4. No blocking below the waist.

Tyke and PeeWee
Offense:

  1. No pre-snap movement by eligible receivers or running backs once the quarterback begins calling signals (everyone must be set for at least one second)
  2. No formation with 3 players to one side of the centre.
  3. In tyke, only the quarterback may throw a pass.

Bantam

  1. Pre-snap motion is allowed by eligible receivers and backs provided at least one running back is stationary for at least one second prior to the snap
  2. No restrictions on positioning of backfielders in relation to the centre.

FOULS

  1. If a player receives an objectionable conduct foul, he will sit out three plays from scrimmage (kick offs and converts are not plays from scrimmage).
  2. A player receiving a total of three (3) unnecessary roughness and/or objectionable conduct fouls will be ejected from the game.
